MYTHS OF WOMEN"Beneath the clouds is the Earth-Mother from whom is derived the Water of Life, who at her bosom feeds plants, animals and men."
(Algonquin legend) Myths of women as Mother Nature have been extremely common throughout history. My work explores this notion of gender and reflects on the consequences it may have on society. Gendered myths continually shape our perceptions and conceptions of what it means to be gendered beings. This series was created by taking found images and my discarded images from a trip to Guatemala and projecting them onto nude female bodies. By combining natural entities with the human form, I want to explore how these elements correspond and conflict within the work. Flat images are never merely two-dimensional. There are always layers upon layers of interpretation and meaning stirred up within the viewer. |
